Lopes (ASU e INSPER)<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div id=\"feb74112da23d03bb\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"toggle_feb74112da23d03bb\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<div class=\"ui--toggle-title\">\n<div class=\"ui--toggle-title\"><a><span class=\"ui--toggle-title-text heading\">This paper identifies and quantifies the effect of macroeconomics events of multiple countries on exchange rate volatility using high frequency currency returns while accounting for persistent stochastic volatility effects and seasonal components capturing time of the day patterns. Due to the hundreds of macroeconomic announcements and its lags, we rely on sparsity based methods to select relevant events for the model. We contribute to the literature in four ways: First, we identify the macroeconomic events that drive currency volatility, estimate their effect, connect them to macroeconomic fundamentals and show how they can be linked to lower frequency currency returns using a model averaging argument. Second, we find a connection between intraday seasonality, trading volume and opening hours of majors markets across the globe and provide a simple labor-based argument for the pattern found. Third, we show that inclusion of macroeconomic events and seasonal components are key for forecasting exchange rate volatility. Fourth, applying our proposed model for multiple currencies alongside a dynamic copula yields a Sharpe ratio 3.5 times higher than using standard SV and GARCH models. espa\u00e7o-temporais tem sido uma \u00e1rea de grande interesse na estat\u00edstica e em outras ci\u00eancias aplicadas. Em particular, os processos espa\u00e7o-temporais s\u00e3o uma forma de an\u00e1lise de dados que levam em conta tanto a varia\u00e7\u00e3o espacial quanto temporal. Esses tipos de dados s\u00e3o comuns em muitos campos, incluindo ci\u00eancias ambientais, geologia, ecologia, entre outros.<\/div>\n<div class=\"ui--toggle-content\">\n<div class=\"auto-format ui--animation\">\n<p>Nesse trabalho, apresentarei diferentes modelagens para processos espa\u00e7o-temporais aplicados a dados ambientais, baseados em processos gaussiano e din\u00e2micos. Os modelos para processos espa\u00e7o-temporais s\u00e3o usados principalmente para previs\u00e3o no tempo e interpola\u00e7\u00e3o no espa\u00e7o. Eles s\u00e3o \u00fateis para entender e prever a evolu\u00e7\u00e3o de processos ambientais, como mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas, distribui\u00e7\u00e3o de esp\u00e9cies animais e vegetais, qualidade da \u00e1gua, entre outros.<\/p>\n<p>A hip\u00f3tese de isotropia e normalidade \u00e9 uma das abordagens mais comuns para a modelagem de processos espa\u00e7o-temporais. Nesta palestra, ser\u00e3o apresentadas inicialmente modelagens mais simples, considerando essas hip\u00f3teses, para posteriormente avan\u00e7ar para abordagens mais complexas e realistas, que permitem relaxar essas hip\u00f3teses. Uma abordagem de deforma\u00e7\u00e3o espacial \u00e9 usada para lidar com a anisotropia. Em particular, destacam-se aplica\u00e7\u00f5es na grande \u00e1rea de Din\u00e2mica de Estruturas envolvendo, por exemplo: calibra\u00e7\u00e3o de modelos constitutivos elasto-visco-pl\u00e1sticos, identifica\u00e7\u00e3o de defeitos estruturais, sele\u00e7\u00e3o de modelos de intera\u00e7\u00e3o broca-rocha em problemas de colunas de perfura\u00e7\u00e3o, sele\u00e7\u00e3o de modelos de contato e ades\u00e3o, entre outros.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"ui--toggle-content\">\n<div class=\"auto-format ui--animation\">\n<p>Em algumas aplica\u00e7\u00f5es \u00e9 bastante comum o analista se deparar com cen\u00e1rios nos quais existem poucos dados de observa\u00e7\u00e3o, n\u00e3o permitindo, desta forma, uma clara especifica\u00e7\u00e3o de qual fun\u00e7\u00e3o de likelihood deveria ser adotada, por exemplo. Em outras aplica\u00e7\u00f5es, apesar do analista ter uma vis\u00e3o clara da classe de modelos a ser adotada, ao mesmo tempo se depara com erros de modelagem referentes a par\u00e2metros (campos) de interesse secund\u00e1rio. Nestes casos, estrat\u00e9gias Bayesianas aproximadas podem ser op\u00e7\u00f5es vi\u00e1veis.<br \/>\nNeste semin\u00e1rio, apresentarei duas aplica\u00e7\u00f5es de estrat\u00e9gias Bayesianas aproximadas em Din\u00e2mica de Estruturas. A primeira aplica\u00e7\u00e3o consiste no uso da t\u00e9cnica BAE (Bayesian Approximate Error) para compensar erros de modelagem em problemas de identifica\u00e7\u00e3o de defeitos estruturais. Neste primeiro problema considera-se o uso de dados de acelera\u00e7\u00e3o medidos em alguns pontos da estrutura. With climate change and the overwhelming economic pressure on Nature, empowering procedures for efficient resource use with the recent advances in artificial intelligence is vital to create adequate policies and trigger warning alerts accordingly. Remotely sensing natural dynamic phenomena, like phenological crop cycles or deforestation processes, is challenging. Continuous and smooth physical processes usually rule such phenomena, but remote sensing involves different sensors with very different essence, scale, and visit rates, corrupted by stochastic events, resulting in highly complex multimodal multitemporal and multi-scale datasets. Moreover, data labeling in Earth Observation (EO) applications is usually scarce or unavailable due to the massive amount of data continuously acquired or notorious fieldwork limitations. Em particular, os processos espa\u00e7o-temporais s\u00e3o uma forma de an\u00e1lise de dados que levam em conta tanto a varia\u00e7\u00e3o espacial quanto temporal. Esses tipos de dados s\u00e3o comuns em muitos campos, incluindo ci\u00eancias ambientais, geologia, ecologia, entre outros.<\/div>\n<div class=\"ui--toggle-content\">\n<div class=\"auto-format ui--animation\">\n<p>Nesse trabalho, apresentarei diferentes modelagens para processos espa\u00e7o-temporais aplicados a dados ambientais, baseados em processos gaussiano e din\u00e2micos. Os modelos para processos espa\u00e7o-temporais s\u00e3o usados principalmente para previs\u00e3o no tempo e interpola\u00e7\u00e3o no espa\u00e7o. Eles s\u00e3o \u00fateis para entender e prever a evolu\u00e7\u00e3o de processos ambientais, como mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas, distribui\u00e7\u00e3o de esp\u00e9cies animais e vegetais, qualidade da \u00e1gua, entre outros.<\/p>\n<p>A hip\u00f3tese de isotropia e normalidade \u00e9 uma das abordagens mais comuns para a modelagem de processos espa\u00e7o-temporais. Nesta palestra, ser\u00e3o apresentadas inicialmente modelagens mais simples, considerando essas hip\u00f3teses, para posteriormente avan\u00e7ar para abordagens mais complexas e realistas, que permitem relaxar essas hip\u00f3teses. Uma abordagem de deforma\u00e7\u00e3o espacial \u00e9 usada para lidar com a anisotropia.
