The Postgraduate Programme in Statistics at UFRJ leads to the degrees of Master and Doctor in Statistics.

From 2001 to 2015, the programme operated under a trimester-based academic system (with three terms per year). As of 2016, the programme reverted to a semester-based system, with two academic terms of fifteen weeks each.

Both degrees include postgraduate coursework and seminars during the first academic year.

The Master's Seminars are semester-long, one-credit courses that involve the assessment of students' understanding and participation in the Programme’s Lecture Series.

In addition to attending the lectures, students are required to prepare a monograph describing some of the lectures they attended. By the end of the first academic year, all students must have completed the minimum required 360 hours of regular coursework and twenty hours of seminar attendance.
